Gelco Chimney Inspection in Marietta: What to Know First
Gelco chimney inspection in Marietta typically costs between $189 and $389, depending on whether you need a standard Level 1 check or a full camera inspection of the flue. We’re an independent Gelco service provider, not a factory warranty station, and most inspections are completed within 90 minutes at your home. If you own a Gelco fireplace, stove, or liner and want someone who knows the product line without the manufacturer’s markup, call (478) 796-8742 for a straight answer and a written price before we touch anything.
This page is for Marietta homeowners who’ve got a Gelco appliance or Gelco-installed liner and want to know what shape it’s in. We’ll tell you what we look for, what commonly fails on these units, and what it costs to make it right.
How Gelco Products Fail – and How We Fix Them
Gelco makes solid chimney components, but they’re not immune to Marietta’s humidity, clay-heavy soil movement, and the occasional freeze-thaw cycle that works on masonry all winter. Here’s what we find on Gelco jobs in Cobb County:
- Gelco stainless steel liners showing vertical stress cracks at the seam welds. This is the failure we see most in Marietta homes built in the late 90s and early 2000s, especially on the Gelco 316L series. The liner expands and contracts with heat, and over 15 to 20 years those seams fatigue. A camera inspection catches hairline cracks you’d never see from the top of the chimney. Fix is usually a HeatShield resurfacing or a DuraFlex liner replacement, not another full Gelco liner.
- Gelco chase covers rusting through at the corners. Marietta gets 50-plus inches of rain a year, and a flat chase cover holds water like a shallow pan. The Gelco galvanized covers we see on older factory-built fireplaces tend to pit at the folded corners first. We replace them with stainless aftermarket covers, and we seal the replacement with a proper termination cap.
- Gelco firebrick panels hairline cracking behind a gas log set. Most Gelco factory-built fireplaces use a refractory panel system inside the firebox. After a decade or so of direct flame contact, those panels develop spider cracks. The bricks usually still function fine, but if the crack opens wider than a nickel, the firebox liner behind it can overheat. We’ll tell you during the inspection if it’s safe to keep using or if it’s time for a panel replacement.
- Damper frame warping on Gelco factory-built units. The damper assembly on some Gelco models, particularly the older GC-36 and GC-42 series, sits directly above the firebox and takes a beating. The frame warps slightly after years of heat, and then the damper won’t fully close. You lose conditioned air up the flue in summer, and in winter you get a draft. We can usually adjust the damper linkage; if the frame is too far gone, it’s a replacement part job.
- Gelco prefab chimney sections separating at the twist-lock joints. On Gelco air-cooled chimney pipe, the sections twist together and lock. We sometimes find joints that have worked loose, especially on taller chimneys where wind gusts from Marietta’s spring storm season put pressure on the pipe. A slight separation at a joint lets hot gases leak into the wall cavity. This is a fire hazard and it’s one of the reasons a Level 2 camera inspection is worth every dollar.

Our Gelco Chimney Inspection Process
Here’s what a Gelco inspection looks like when you call Ashby Chimney Marietta:
- 1
You call (478) 796-8742. A live person answers, asks about your Gelco unit, and books a time that works for you. No callback form, no voicemail tag.
- 2
We show up in the window. Our technician arrives on schedule, in uniform, background-checked, with a camera system and the right brushes for a Gelco flue.
- 3
We walk you through the inspection scope. Level 1 if you’re on an annual maintenance schedule and nothing’s changed; Level 2 if you’ve had a fire, water intrusion, or you’re buying or selling the home. We explain which one you need and why before we start.
- 4
We run the camera. For Level 2 inspections, we send the camera head up or down the flue and record the entire run. You see the footage with us, not just a paragraph in an email later.
- 5
We write the price before any repair. If we find a crack, a failing joint, or a blocked flue, we tell you what it costs to fix before we order a part or lift a tool. Repairs use quality materials from brands we trust: Gelco components where warranty or fitment matters, DuraFlex or HeatShield where they perform better.
- 6
We test and document. After any repair, we verify draft, check clearances, and take photos. You get a written report and a written guarantee. If the repair fails inside the guarantee period, we come back and fix it at no charge. That’s the 365-Day Done Right Promise.

AfterWhat Gelco Chimney Inspection Costs in Marietta
Most Marietta homes with a Gelco fireplace or stove fall into one of these scenarios:
- Level 1 inspection (annual check, no changes): $189 to $249. We check the flue condition, damper operation, firebox integrity, and cap.
- Level 2 camera inspection (real estate sale, storm damage, performance issues): $329 to $389. Full camera run, photo and video documentation, written report.
- Level 3 inspection (needs a structural teardown or liner removal): $500 and up, quoted as a project. We only recommend this when a Level 2 shows something that can’t be evaluated from inside the flue.
What moves the price? Roof pitch, chimney height, whether the cap needs partial disassembly to get the camera in, and whether we find repairs that need addressing. We’ll give you a written price before any repair work, but the inspection fee itself is fixed and quoted at booking. Call (478) 796-8742 for a free estimate on your Gelco inspection.
Why Marietta Homeowners Call Ashby Chimney Marietta for Gelco Work
We’ve been in the chimney trade since 2002, and we’ve been doing Gelco inspections long enough to know these units’ weak points before we even get on the roof. Nathan Corliss and our crew have worked fireplaces all over metro Atlanta, including plenty of older homes near Kennesaw Mountain where the original Gelco liners and prefab units are still in service. We carry Gearco, DuraFlex, HeatShield, and other quality aftermarket parts on the truck, so if a Gelco component isn’t worth installing, we’ll tell you what is and why. Every job gets a written price before work starts, and a written guarantee when it’s done. As Nathan puts it: “Tell you the price first, show you the work, put it in writing – that’s the whole job.”
FAQs
No, we don’t process Gelco manufacturer warranties. We’re an independent Gelco service provider, not a factory-authorized warranty station. If your Gelco product is still under warranty, we recommend you contact Gelco directly first. If the warranty has expired or the manufacturer won’t cover the issue, we’ll inspect it, give you a written diagnosis, and handle the repair with quality parts that match or exceed the originals. Call (478) 796-8742 for a straight answer.
Yes, in most cases. Gelco replacement parts are still available for many older series, including the GC-36 and GC-42 factory-built fireplaces, and our suppliers stock them. For some discontinued Gelco appliances, we use aftermarket parts from brands like Olympia Chimney or Famco that fit the same dimensions and perform as well or better. We’ll tell you during the inspection if a part is hard to get and exactly what your options are.
Once a year, minimum. Even if you don’t burn fires often, Marietta’s humidity and rain work on the metal components year-round. A quick Level 1 inspection catches rust on the chase cover, damper linkage problems, and flue blockages before they become expensive. If you burn more than three cords of wood a season or use the fireplace daily, consider a camera inspection every other year.
For a Gelco factory-built fireplace or an older Gelco liner, we recommend a camera inspection at least once. The camera sees what’s inside the flue: cracked seams, separated joints, delaminating liner walls. These are problems you can’t see from the top of the chimney or by looking up from the firebox. But if your unit is newer and you’ve never had an issue, a Level 1 visual inspection is usually sufficient for an annual check. We’ll tell you during our visit what’s actually needed, not what earns us the biggest invoice.
We can usually schedule an inspection within one to three business days, depending on the season. Call (478) 796-8742 and we’ll tell you our current availability and give you a fixed price for the inspection over the phone. A real person answers.
