Chimney sweep logs do not sweep chimneys. They loosen some creosote - which then falls where a brush and vacuum still have to collect it.
Copperfield Flue Liner Replacement: The Marietta Owner’s Guide
If your Copperfield chimney liner has cracked, rusted through, or started dropping flakes into your firebox, we can replace it. Most Copperfield-compatible flue liner replacements in Marietta run between $2,400 and $4,800 installed, and the job typically takes one full day. You’ll usually know something’s wrong when you see thin metal shards in the firebox, smell smoke backing into the room, or notice condensation staining on the chimney exterior near the top.
We stock Copperfield replacement liners and components on our trucks, and we also work with DuraFlex and HeatShield liners when a Copperfield-specific match isn’t the right call for your particular fireplace. Nathan Corliss has been measuring and fitting flue liners in metro Atlanta for over two decades, including plenty of older homes around Kennesaw Mountain where the original liners were installed decades before anyone thought about stainless steel retrofits.
Which Copperfield Models This Applies To
Copperfield flue liners are manufactured in several diameter sizes, most commonly 4-inch, 5.5-inch, 6-inch, and 8-inch. The model number is usually stamped on the liner’s top edge or printed on a metal tag attached near the appliance collar. If you can’t find it, we measure the inside diameter of the existing liner and match it to the correct Copperfield spec on site.
The compatibility detail most Marietta homeowners don’t know: a Copperfield liner sized for a wood-burning fireplace is not automatically safe to reuse for a gas insert conversion. Gas appliances run cooler and produce different condensation chemistry, so the liner grade matters. We check the manufacturer’s listing for your specific Copperfield model before recommending any replacement. For gas applications, we often use a Copperfield or DuraFlex liner rated for that fuel type, not just whatever size happens to fit the flue.
Ashby Chimney Marietta is an independent service provider. We’re not affiliated with Copperfield, but we’ve been installing and replacing their liners long enough to know which models hold up and which ones fail early.

Signs Your Copperfield Flue Liner Replacement Is Failing
- Metal flakes or thin shards in the firebox. This is the most common failure we see. The inner stainless wall starts to delaminate or corrode, and tiny pieces drop down. If you’re finding shiny bits after every fire, the liner is breaking down internally.
- Smoke smell in the house even with the damper open. A cracked liner can’t maintain proper draft. Smoke that used to pull straight up now eddies into the room, especially on windy days when the crack faces the prevailing wind.
- White or brown staining on the chimney exterior. Condensation leaking through a failed liner carries creosote and moisture through the masonry. By the time you see it outside, the liner’s been compromised for a while.
- Rust-colored water or dampness in the firebox after rain. A liner that’s split near the top lets water run down the inside of the chimney. This corrodes the liner further and stains your firebrick.
- A visible crack or gap when you shine a light up the flue. With a mirror and a flashlight, you can sometimes spot the problem from below. We confirm everything with a camera inspection so you’re not guessing.
In Marietta, humidity is a real factor here. Summer moisture combines with creosote acids inside the liner and accelerates corrosion. We’ve replaced Copperfield liners in Cobb County that failed in under a decade, while identical units in drier climates went fifteen or twenty years.

AfterReplacement Cost & What’s Included
A Copperfield flue liner replacement in Marietta typically costs between $2,400 and $4,800 installed. The range comes down to three things: liner diameter and length, whether the old liner comes out cleanly or fights us, and whether the chimney crown or cap needs attention at the same time.
Here’s what that price includes when we do the work:
- The liner itself (Copperfield, DuraFlex, or HeatShield depending on your setup)
- Removal of the old liner and any loose debris
- Installation, insulation where the code requires it, and reconnection to the appliance flue collar
- Crown sealing and cap replacement if needed
- A camera inspection before and after, with photos you can see for yourself
- A written price before we touch anything, and a written guarantee on the completed work
If we find masonry damage behind the liner, we’ll show you the camera footage and give you a separate written price. We don’t bundle surprise masonry work into a liner quote. The number we quote at the door is the number on the invoice.
DIY or Call Us?
Here’s the honest split. You can safely check for visible liner damage from below with a flashlight and a mirror. You can note whether you’re finding metal flakes in the firebox, and you can track whether smoke smell gets worse on windy days. Those observations help us diagnose faster.
What you shouldn’t do is attempt to remove or install a flue liner yourself. It’s a multi-story job on a ladder or roof, often with heavy stainless components, and getting the connection at the appliance collar wrong can send carbon monoxide into the house instead of up the chimney. This is one repair where the cost of a professional is cheaper than the cost of getting it wrong.

FAQs
A Copperfield liner in Marietta typically lasts 10 to 20 years, but Georgia humidity and creosote acidity can shorten that to under a decade if the chimney goes years between cleanings. The best way to extend liner life is an annual sweep and inspection, which catches corrosion before it becomes a full replacement.
Small cracks can sometimes be addressed with HeatShield cerfractory sealant, which we install and warranty, but full replacement is usually the better call when the liner is delaminating or rusted through. We’ll show you the camera footage so you can see exactly what we’re looking at before you decide.
Most Copperfield liner replacements in Marietta take one full day from arrival to final camera inspection. Larger liners, stubborn removals, or masonry repairs add time, and we’ll tell you that before we start.
We carry the most common Copperfield liner sizes and components on our trucks, so most replacements are done same-day once we’ve measured. Odd sizes or specialty models take a few days to order, and we’ll give you a firm arrival window before we schedule the install.
